Road Trip Chow Down: Fabulous Las Vegas

Spring break is fast approaching, and SXSW is getting ready to go in Austin.  So what's a foodie to do?  We're heading west, to fabulous Las Vegas, home of the cloned celebrity-chef restaurant and the $1.99 shrimp cocktail.  Las Vegas has always been about the money, and we are very curious to see how the town has adapted to the current recession.

We'll be hanging out Rat Pack-style on the strip (while watching our dimes), and will be reporting on our findings.  But we need your help.  What are the must see, must do restaurants and attractions?  Where are the bargains?  What should we avoid?

We know that the readers of this blog are a savvy bunch, and look forward to your suggestions and comments.

  1. Be sure to check out Switch. The food is good, but the room is remarkable. No place but Las Vegas.

  2. I am not sure what you consider a bargain, but the last time I was in Vegas, I enjoyed the MGM's breakfast buffet for $12.99. They had a wide variety of items (as in anything your brain would deem breakfast-worthy) that were fresh and hot! I got there at around 10:30 and at 11:00 they switched to the lunch menu, so I got to enjoy both the breakfast & lunch foods for the breakfast price! Have fun!

  3. There is an In-and-Out in Vegas! YES!

  4. If you are downtown, Bunions has a really tasty steak, while not the most hip restaurant, the view from there is really good.

  5. Regarding first post, I think switch may be under partial construction, best to check by calling Encore first.

Second, there are some some deals at restuarants.com for Vegas - Use promo code BITE and get certificates at two bucks each. You may consider Hash House a Go Go just for the experience (go to the one on Sahara if you have a car).

Many fixed price deals if you look. MGM especially. Joel Robecion L'Atair (or however its spell is worth investing in tasting memu).

Agree that In and Out is always a good fast food stop.

If you go downtown - suggest Firefly for the view - Tapas - Not cheap but a good experience.
