Best Restaurants Outside the Loop

Conventional wisdom (for many) in Houston is that the best restaurants are found ITL - Inside the Loop.

We disagree. Houston is BIG, and most of Houston is OTL (Outside the Loop.) Here are out favorite places to eat that lie in the land of dragons beyond 610:

Amici
Burns BBQ
Ciao Bello
Christie's Seafood
Grimaldi's
Jasper's
Hubbell & Hudson
La Baraonda
Mel's Country Cafe
Ocean Palace
Otilia's
Pappas Bro's Steakhouse
Pico's
Sylvia's Enchilada Kitchen
Tesar's

Who'd we miss?

  3. I believe most ITL folks treat the Galleria area as though it's ITL (certainly as far as food goes, esp the likes of Pappas Steakhouse, Masraff, etc.). But, it's the only OTL area granted that privilege. ;-)

Most of the taco trucks I love are OTL. And Pho. In general cheap delicious ethnic food is found less ITL.

    Fung's

  6. OceanPalace? Now that place rocks the hell out of me for some dim sum every Sunday. Love it and so true, much of Houston is growing outside of the loop. Thanks for sharing

  8. Cafe Rita

I really consider OTL to be OTB. And yes Galleria area I consider ITL.

  9. I am seeing some glaring omissions.

Himilaya and Udipi? Hell, all of Hillcroft.

And Shanghai? Chinatown is packed with deliciousness.

  10. Memorial Grill
    Koto Japanese Restaurant

  11. I second the Hillcroft restaurants, would add Shri Balaji Bhavan for some of the most authentic vegetarian Indian food I've ever had outside of someone's house!

despite the recent bad review, still think Killen's is one of the best meals I've had in (or near!) Houston.
